Advanced Lessons

Ages 9 – 15

For children who have completed the Foundational Skills Course, these lessons focus on bringing out the strengths and developing habits moving them from “knowing what to do”, to “doing what you know”. While still in a group environment, there is a greater focus on individual skills development. Skills gained over time include:

  • Authenticity and showing who you are

  • Storytelling and humour

  • Interaction with the audience

  • Whisper and Squeak

  • Slides and presentations

  • Debating and authority

Term and weekly themes

Each term we focus on a different outcome with a presentation goal at the end, Examples from the past include:

- Debating

- Competition Speaking

- Radio Program announcing

- Persuasive Speaking

- Impromptu Speaking

We continually push the kids outside of their comfort zones by:

Exploring new styles of speaking - speaking with more authority, or more conversationally, by adding humour, or by adding gravitas

Exploring new opportunities to speak - public speaking competitions, debating competitions, supporting them in school leadership speeches, even radio station visits!

Individualised Focus

In addition to the overall themes and targets, we focus on each child’s individual development through specific areas of focus. This ingrains positive habits as well as providing challenges to ensure a balance between perfection and growth. We keep class sizes small to ensure that each child has an opportunity to shine.

Creating flexible confident speakers

Who think about the world around them, and have the confidence and skills to influence the decisions that affect them.

Preparing them for the real world. Not just the classroom.
